Easy, ANY size Snowballs

Materials/Supplies:

  • Yarn of choice
  • hook measuring approx 0.5mm smaller than suggested for your yarn
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Note: below pattern is written in US terms

Start with a magic circle, or alternatively, you can chain 2, and continue with the following stitches in the 1st chain made.

Round 1: 6SC (place a stitch marker in the last stitch, this will be the end of each continuous round, alternatively, you could slst to 1st SC).

Round 2: 2SC in each st around (if using alternative method as above, ch1, 2SC in same st, continue as normal). 12sts

Round 3: *1SC in next st, 2SC in the next st* rep from *to* around. 18sts

Round 4: *SC in the next 2sts, 2SC in the next st* rep from *to* around. 24sts.

Round 5: *SC in the next 3sts, 2SC in the nxt st* rep from *to* around. 30sts.

Round 6: *SC in the next 4sts, 2SC in the next st* rep from *to* around. 36sts

Round 7: *SC in the next 5sts, 2SC in the next st* rep from *to* around. 42 sts.

This is as big i want my snowball to be, so i'm going to stop increasing here, however, if you would like it bigger or smaller, then just add or deduct the increase rows accordingly. also note, how many increase rows you started with will adjust how many SC rounds you need to do to make it round. If you're a complete beginner, for now i would just follow the instructions given until you get the hang of the increase and decrease variables.

Round 8 - 15: SC in each st around

Round 16: *SC in next 5sts, SC2TOG* repeat from *to* around. 36 sts

Round 17: *SC in next 4sts, SC2TOG* rep from *to* around. 30 sts.

Round 18: SC in next 3sts, SC2TOG* rep from *to* around. 24sts

Round 19: *SC in the next 2sts, SC2TOG* rep from *to* around. 18sts.

Start stuffing your snowball firmly from here until end, or until your snowball is at its desired firmness.

Round 20: *SC in the next st, SC2TOG* rep from *to* around. 12 sts.

Round 21: SC2TOG around. 6sts.

Optional: before fastening off, chain 10 and slst to beginning st to create a loop.

FO leaving a long tail for weaving through the remaining sts, pull tight. hide your ends inside the snowball.

And thats it! all done, you now have a wonderful snowball or bauble.
